Stewardship of the planet is our personal goal. We have tailored our grow list to compliment this stewardship philosophy. We are pleased to witness native selections and low-water use plants becoming more popular in the Texas landscape as water restrictions and drought conditions continue across much of our state. At present, we have approximately five acres in container production. A greenhouse will be in use for the 2010 spring season. There is plenty of room for expansion as the market embraces the beauty and versatility of native and low-water use plantings in the landscape.
Briggate Farms' efforts to minimize our impact include using organic fertilizers, recycling plastic, and creating an IPM program to help lower our chemical use. Our footprint is already small because grasses do not require insecticides, and their susceptibility to disease is very low.
We are the original "Green Industry"! Plants provide many benefits to us: when planted in the landscape, they control soil erosion and can improve soil condition; when used indoors, they cleanse the air and improve our well-being; and plant therapy has even been shown to be a factor in recovery from serious illnesses! Plants provide us a much-needed opportunity to connect with the natural world.
We believe we become better people by virtue of our experiences with plants.
So -- go buy a plant! It's good for you, it's good for the environment, and by golly, it stimulates the economy!
